Camp Statement on Latest, Disappointing GDP Data

Posted by admin | Camping Gear | Saturday 30 October 2010 9:45 am

Upon release of the third quarter GDP data this morning, Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement:
“The so-called stimulus bill has failed to create the economic growth and jobs the Administration promised. Given the Administration’s expansion of government, funded by a massive run-up in deficit spending and with a looming $3.8 trillion tax hike just two months away, it is no wonder businesses large and small are frozen by uncertainity and are holding back. In order to create the private sector jobs Americans desperately need, we must prevent a job-killing tax hike and act immediately to get spending under control.”

Camp Applauds Completion of Key Asian Carp Barrier

Posted by admin | Camping Gear | Friday 29 October 2010 4:40 am

The Attack of the Killer Fish faced another setback today as, a few days before Halloween, an emergency barrier was finished to keep the invasive Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes in case of flooding.

This is a key provision of the CARP ACT, and its co-author, U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-MI, applauded the completion of the 13-mile long Des Plaines fence of concrete barriers and wire mesh that will prevent the migration of Asian Carp from the Des Plaines River and I&M Canal during a flood event into the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and ultimately Lake Michigan.

“Anytime we reach a milestone in the fight against Asian Carp, it is good news, and I’m glad this barrier is finally in place. But the work is not done. We must continue to implement all of the provisions of the Carp bills and ensure we can achieve total hydrological separation as quickly as possible. Simply, this is a fight our state and this region cannot afford to lose,” Camp said.

Camp leads this issue in Congress, as the co-author with Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-MI, of the CARP ACT and a separate bill that builds on that one, the Permanent Prevention of Asian Carp Act, which is co-sponsored by all members of the Michigan delegation.

Asian Carp is an invasive species of fish making its way up the Mississippi River and threatening to wreak havoc on the Great Lakes’ $7.5 billion fishing industry and the 800,000 jobs it supports.
